Interpretation
Obake (Japanese for ghost) and Ike (short for Icarus) were best friends from grade school, and both had dreams of being computer hackers. They wanted to be in the Gordian Net, and began trying to hack bigger and bigger targets to get their attention. One run was up against a major target, and Ike hit SpliceFire and was killed.Devastated, Obake became even more determined to get into the Gordian Net to fulfill the dream for both of them. They did notice that he didn't quit even after his friend was killed, and also that Obake survived the same SpliceFire attack that killed Ike, so they brought him in as a prospect. When he does, he swelled with pride, trying hard to bring Ike with him in his heart.
When he was captured by NuBridge, he felt ashamed because to his mind, he not only failed, he let Ike down. When Spider rescues him, he told Obake that he didn't fail at all, that it was all Spider's fault, and that Ike would be proud.
