Interpretation
Alex is originally from Katy, Texas (A small suburb of Houston), but he tells everyone that he's from Austin. His mother was a Mexican immigrant who married a wealthy American businessman. His father died while Alex was still young, leaving his mother everything. She used this wealth to provide well for Alex, while going to law school to become an immigration advocacy attorney. Alex's unique perspective left him with a deep understanding the power of having money, and how that privilege can be used to help others less fortunate.During his childhood, Texas was hit with a massive polio epidemic, and it swept through Alex's classmates, many of whom were unvaccinated. Luckily, his parents were very adamant about keeping him vaccinated, so combined with the superior medical care his family could afford, he survived, but it left him physically very weak. He gets around with the use of an exoskeletal walking frame that he wears under his clothing, and it would be easy not to notice at a casual glance. This physical weakness steered him towards more mental pursuits than physical, adds irony to the fact that he owns a dance club. He never dances, but does love to watch others dance, and the club brings people to him.
Losing all his childhood friends also makes him more appreciative of his "choice family". He values knowledge and information above all else. He is knowledge manifest. He went to University of Texas, Austin, majoring in information technology, with a minor in economic justice. He's a true believer, he really wants to be Robin Hood, but he's the only one in the Gordian Net who takes that mission seriously.
